THE HOPE SOAP
Edition 2016-022
Welcome to the 22nd edition of my regular President's update, The Hope Soap.

Firstly, apologies for the time in between updates. Unfortunately a very busy time of year for me.  I will try and make sure updates are more regular going forward.

Secondly, a belated welcome from me to our two newest members, Joel Fisher and Belinda Deacon who were inducted a couple of weeks ago.  Unfortunately I was in Sydney for work that week but I look forward to catching up with both of you soon.

Last Week

At last weeks meeting we heard from Graeme Allen, our District Insurance officer.  It was an insightful and interesting presentation topic despite what might seem like quite a dry topic.  It was particularly relevant for our events such as upcoming Boat Show and I have forwarded on some details I received from Graeme to members of that Committee.  I will also load this information on to the Club Documents section of our website (accessible under the 'Members' link) for future reference.

This Week

At this week's meeting we will be hearing from Past District Governor, Graham Jones on the Malaria Vaccine Project.  We have heard a lot about this recently but I am sure, as always, Graham will provide a unique and no doubt entertaining perspective.

For those of you on the Boat Show Committee there is a meeting this week.  Please ensure you attend if you can as the event is coming up fast !

Committees Chairs should be aware that next Thursday is a scheduled Board meeting so if you need to have a meeting of your Committee to present recommendations to the Board you should do so ASAP.  The Boat Show Committee in particular will need to to do this.OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia that collects quality excess food from more than 2,000 commercial outlets and delivers it, direct and free of charge, to more than 900 charities including right here on the Gold Coast. - See more at: http://hopeislandrotary.org.au/event/19-apr-17-meeting-1/#sthash.xGfeCTUK.dpu

Next Week

Next Wednesday (24 May) we will hear from Denis O'Brien from the Rotary Club of Broadbeach discussing water projects in China.

It is also our massive Boat Show Catering effort from Thursday (25th) to Sunday (28th).  If you have not yet been in touch with Sandy about rostering and availability, I strongly encourage you to do so ASAP.

Updates to Club Website

Over the past few weeks I have been making a few change to our Club Website with more to come.  If you do want to make changes or have any suggestions then please let me know.  I am more than happy to add things if provided with the content.

Some of the recent changes included new links to the Rotary Down Under and Rotarian magazines (under 'News and Features') and additional links under the Members Section, including some common Rotary International Links and the weekly breakfast menu.

I hope to see as many of you as possible on Wednesday morning !

Yours in Rotary
