The Rotary Club of
Hope Island
Edition 2016-020
Welcome to the 20th edition of my regular President's update, The Hope Soap.
A very busy few weeks for me so again just a quick update this week with a few things for your attention.
Last Week

At last weeks meeting it was a pleasure to hear from Chriselle D'Mello who our club sponsored to this year's Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) camp.  For someone who professed a dislike for public speaking before her presentation I think we would all agree she was a fantastic advocate for RYLA.  To top it off she manged to get us all up out of our chairs to enthusiastically recite the RYLA chant.  Not since our former exchange student, Yasmin managed to get our club members up to samba has their been so much synchronised movement in the room !
This Week

At this week's meeting we will be hearing from Linda Thomas who will be talking about a Hygiene Project she has been involved in.
I would also like to take the opportunity to congratulate our sergeant, Neil Moxey who will be heading up to Charleville next week with his wife Diane to support the Outback Links project.  Our club has previously donated $1,000 to this project but as you will have seen from Jo-Anne's email, in lieu of a raffle this week, we are asking members who would like to support this further to consider donating funds that can be directly passed on to those rural families in need.
A few of other things to mention -
  • Facebook Page - please continue to like and share the posts that are made on this page.  Joe Wilkinson has been doing a fantastic job of creating engaging posts and I have heard from Sandy that one of the recent ones may possibly lead directly to a new member.
  • Pride of Workmanship (29 March) - please place this date in your diaries as the date on which we will be hosting a special Pride of Workmanship Breakfast. I know the Committee of Bron, Jill and Wayne have been doing some hard work to plan for this event so it would be great to see as many as possible of you along to help celebrate the work of business people in our community.
  • Hetty Johnston A.M. (26 April) - a reminder also that on this date we will be hosting the Rotary Club of Surfers Sunrise and we will hear from Hetty Johnston, A.M. For those of you who don't know, Hetty is the founder of the organisation, Bravehearts and a tireless campaigner for child protection.  This will be a fantastic opportunity to hear from a extremely well credentialed guest speaker.
District News
A reminder again of a few important District updates  -
.. and finally

I hope to see as many of you as possible on Wednesday morning !
